Ex-'Buffy' Scribe Finds 'Tru Calling' Former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" writer and producer Jane Espenson is reuniting with one of her ex-slayers.Espenson, who most recently worked on "Gilmore Girls," is joining FOX's "Tru Calling" as a co-executive producer, as part of a two-year agreement she signed with 20th Century Fox TV. The show stars Eliza Dushku, who played rogue slayer Faith on "Buffy" and its spinoff, "Angel.""She is a remarkably talented writer; clearly she has the experience writing for drama and comedy, and she moves effortlessly between both genres," 20th TV president Dana Walden tells The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a real win for the studio when we can make a deal with someone who has had so much experience on one of our shows.""Buffy" and "Angel," like "Tru Calling," were produced by 20th Century Fox TV.Espenson calls "Tru," which stars Dushku as a morgue attendant who can rewind time to save people who have died prematurely, "exactly the kind of project that I enjoy." The show didn't make much noise in the ratings in its first year, but FOX liked it enough to give it another shot.Espenson worked as a writer and co-executive producer on The WB's "Gilmore Girls" this season and also wrote an episode of "The O.C." Prior to joining the "Buffy" staff, she wrote for several comedies, including "Something So Right" and "Ellen."Her deal with 20th Century Fox also calls for her to develop new projects, which she says will likely fall in the sci-fi genre.
